Kristy Mickelsen, a passionate advocate for her two autistic children, as well as a dedicated reader and writer, was born in Upland, California, and raised in Riverside by her wonderful parents, Dale and Reata. She later moved to California’s high desert, where she graduated from junior college with an Associate of Science degree in Child Development. Kristy began her career as a state preschool teacher for children with special needs, working in the field for seven years. She earned her Site Supervisor credentials for children ages 4-5 but retired in 2017 due to illness. Inspired by her autistic son, who encouraged her to pursue her dream of writing professionally, Kristy shifted her focus to writing.
Through her work, Kristy advocates for important causes such as cancer, autism, and lupus awareness, all of which have impacted her life in meaningful ways. In 2021, she discovered a love for audio work and podcasting after appearing as a guest on The Billy Dees Podcast. With Billy’s support, she became a Twitter Spaces host and launched her own podcast.
Since starting her writing and audio career, Kristy has written numerous articles for various blogs, published books, been a guest speaker on many podcasts, and appeared on Kamar 4 News. She has completed three mini book tours and has received four awards for her podcasting and literary work, including an Award of Excellence from the 30th Annual Communicator Awards, a Platinum Award for her literary contributions, and two Gold Awards for her work as host of the W.W.A.A. Podcast. Her advocacy work has resonated with many, and she proudly promotes her slogan: “Be the Voice, Be the Change, Be the One to Make a Difference.”
Outside of her professional endeavors, Kristy enjoys spending quality time with her two autistic adult children, Josh and Cassie, and her husband, Ken. As a family, they love to travel and seek out new adventures. In her spare time, Kristy participates in charity walking challenges for causes she is passionate about, including the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
